Good Tuesday morning!
No gaudy, showy colours for this Eye Candy pic, taken this weekend.
Instead I'm sharing subtle shades of white and muted colours.
There were some great autumn colours this weekend, but I decided to "go understated."
Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Eye Candy: Misty Mailboxes
I have "gone fishing." Well, gone driving through country roads lined with vividly hued trees; gone to enjoy an artists' tour; gone to gobble turkey with family.
I shall return refreshed, dear readers, and happy to share local news once again. And perhaps the odd stunning pic from this weekend.
In the meantime, eat some turkey, hug some family members and be thankful.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Eye Candy Friday: Roots
Well, it's spectacularly slow this Friday prior to the last long weekend of the summer. So I thought that I would share an older picture with you -- these are well-worn tree roots on a path in Algonquin Park.
(It's on the way to Whisky Rapids, for those of you who care.)
The roots are worn smooth by many feet passing over them, giving them a polished and hardy look.
Have a fantastic long weekend!
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: Cliffside View
It's hot and slow today... suitable for August!
So I'm sharing this pic of my sister, which was taken by my other sister. I think the loosestrife(?) clinging to the side of such typical shield rock really makes this pic pop.
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: Underwater Art
I love the colours muted by murky green in this, plus the shimmery light.
Conjures up the bliss of lake swimming!

Eye Candy: Summer Wheat
We're entering the Dog Days of summer and the wheat is growing high, turning more gold than green.
My sister took a picture of my other sister last week amid a glorious sea of grain. (She's birdwatching, BTW).
Cheers,

Eye Candy Friday: Victoria College
Morning!
I'm working at Victoria College at U of T this week and the grounds are stunning.
If you don't look beyond the roof lines, you feel like you could be back in time at least 100 years.
The juxtaposition of the towering condos behind is visually interesting, though. Old meets new.
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: April Snow
So, yeah, it snowed. And stayed. I'm not sure why everyone is surprised. DS turns 18 on the 27th and I have a distinct memory of cradling him in the hospital while watching the snow fall outside.So... I don't think that this is unusual!
Enjoy the Eye Candy. Snow looks smashing on dogwood, doesn't it?
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: Shapes and Shadows
Good morning!
I thought that I'd share a little Eye Candy with you this a.m. I captured this interesting collection of shapes and shadows on the U of T campus.

Eye Candy: Icy Shadows
Good morning!
We spent Christmas at my sister's farm. While the ice storms/cold/snowstorms wreaked havoc with a lot of people's travel/Holiday plans, they also coated the countryside in a sparkling, stunning layer of crystal and white.
On Christmas Day, my family was able to walk across snowy fields without snowshoes; there was a layer of ice covering everything.
Because every branch and stalk was coated, too, and the sun came out, the whole world turned into a shining, crystalline wonderland.
It was quite magical.
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: Black and White?
Greetings!
I hope that you had a lovely Holiday full of warmth of all kinds. I was away for Christmas -- interesting drive.
I hope that you had a lovely Holiday full of warmth of all kinds. I was away for Christmas -- interesting drive.
Anyway, while at my sister's farm, we took a very careful walk on snow-covered fields lightly layered with ice -- no snowshoes. We each fell through the crust a few times, but it was a lovely walk and absolutely sparkling, thanks to snow, ice and sunshine.
The pic here looks black and white, doesn't it?
It's actually a colour shot.

Eye Candy: Icy Christmas Light
I took this early this a.m. Not much has melted since. We're due to get whalloped with more freezing rain soon, too.
'Mayor' Ford is making an announcement at 1:30.
If you have a fireplace, get some wood inside; get your candles/flashlights ready; and make sure your BBQs are good to fire up outside.
It's currently overwhelmed, but you can check on power outages online. From what I've read online, pockets are out here and there in our area.
Stay safe!

Eye Candy: Frosty, Misty Field
Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I'm thankful for family; lovely fall colours; turkey; and vistas like this one, which I captured last Thanksgiving.
Wishing you all the best!

Eye Candy: Sunset Viewing
I'm happy with this shot because I took it without a tripod in, as you can see, low light.
I love the silhouettes and my family enjoying a pinkilicious sunset.
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: Big Sky
News remains slow to non-existent, so I thought that I'd share another picture from my sister's farm. I spent a week there this summer.
One thing I miss in the city are big-sky vistas. Sometimes during "magic hour" I want to see the whole sky, not just the little itty bit not blocked by buildings.
We were lucky enough to enjoy a few spectacular sunsets while away.
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: Silhouette Sunset
News remains slow, which is a good pace for summer.
I spent a week in the country recently. One thing that I love about the country is big sky vistas that you can't get in the city; too much concrete in the way.
This pic of my family is from a spectacular sunset that I witnessed. Hot pink cotton candy clouds for a good 30 minutes, part of a stellar magic hour.
Gorgeous!
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: Stewart Park in Perth, Ontario
While away, I toured around some smaller Ontario towns. Perth is a definite gem. Just an hour's drive southwest from Ottawa, this charming place is nestled on the banks of the Tay River. It's full of heritage sites and buildings and has been called the prettiest town in Ontario.
This pic is of Stewart Park, which is smack dab in the middle of the action near the main streets.
Lovely!
Cheers,
Vanessa

Eye Candy: Weathered
What is it about weathered barn board? I know that I'm not the only one who finds it beautiful.
Is it the silvery sheen that it takes on from years of wind, snow and rain battering? Is it the passage of time that it represents? Does it evoke a simpler time, when we lived rural lives?
Who knows.
This I do know: I find it beautiful.
Enjoy!
Vanessa
