Tafelmusik Redo

Tafelmusik, our area's own baroque orchestra, is fundraising to transform its home in a church on Bloor St. West.
According to an article in the Globe, "The renovation will improve acoustics, seating and sightlines at the 19th-century church that Tafelmusik has called home since 1981."
Cheers,
Vanessa

Free Baroque Music Concert Saturday

Indulging in culture in TO can mean breaking the bank. But this Saturday you can catch  Italian Strings free of charge. (Admission is PWYC and free for youth.)
The "concert of emerging artists of the Tafelmusik Winter Institute" begins at 7:30 pm at Trinity St. Paul's, which is on the south side of Bloor, one block west of Bathurst.

Vanessa

Tafelmusik Christmas Concerts

We have a renowned baroque music orchestra in our midst. Lucky or what?
Tafelmusik performs Handel's Messiah every year and lately they've been doing it in Koerner Hall at the Royal Conservatory of Music, which is within walking distance.
Double lucky!

A truly marvellous experience is trucking down to the annual, always-sold-out, sing-along Messiah at Massey Hall. This year it's on the 23rd.
Closer to home -- and at its usual home -- this weekend the group is celebrating the season with French Baroque Christmas at Trinity St. Paul's at 427 Bloor St. West.
Happy singing and humming!

Performance run Thursday through Sunday and tickets range from $34 to $85.

Tafelmusik: Bach at the Coffee House

Baroque Orchestra Tafelmusik, which resides in our area, presents Bach at the Coffee House with performances beginning Jan. 13th at Trinity St. Paul's on Bloor St. West.
Here's the description: "Savour music selected by J.S. Bach for his concert series at Zimmerman’s Coffee House in Leipzig, including Bach’s brilliant Brandenburg Concerto no. 5, and a charming Concerto for flute, violin and cello from Telemann’s collection of instrumental works titled Tafelmusik. Also features Charlotte Nediger and Olivier Fortin in Bach’s sparkling Concerto for 2 harpsichords in C Major."
Enjoy!

Tafelmusik's Sing-Along Messiah

Every year at Massey Hall, baroque music orchestra Tafelmusik hosts a Sing-Along Messiah.
I haven't been able to attend since it switched dates to the Sunday prior to Christmas, but I've been in the past and it is an incredible experience.
It's one thing to watch a music performance and it's another to be immersed in it, with everyone around you singing, feeling the vibration of so many voices passing through you and over you to mingle into one, massive, glorious sound that fills a magnificent space.
No wonder it sells out every year.
So if you want to go on Dec. 19th, you'd better order your tickets now.
Also, if singing along is not your style, you can attend Messiah performances in our neighbourhood at Trintity-St. Paul's, home to Tafelmusik.
Cheers,
Vanessa

Tafelmusik's New Season Begins

Baroque Orchestra Tafelmusik, housed in our area, launches its new season this month.
I'm not a huge baroque music fan but, like many people, I have attended the Holiday season
Sing-Along Messiah at Massey Hall, which is a breathtaking experience.
Cheers,
Vanessa
