Kids' Show Fairy Tale Ending at Palmerston Library Theatre
I knew about the Toronto Fringe Festival, of course, but I didn't know that there was a FringeKids Festival til this rolled into my inbox:
"FAIRY TALE ENDING, runs July 2-10 at the Palmerston Library Theatre (just west of Bathurst & Bloor).

If you don't have kids, don't let that stop you from coming to see the show - there is PLENTY to keep adults laughing too (as anyone who has seen one of Kieren and Jeremy's other musicals will attest). You won't want to miss it!
FAIRY TALE ENDING is a topsy-turvy yet touching tale of a young girl coming to grips with loss and the reality of growing up. Join Jill as a “line up” of characters is questioned about the sudden changes occurring in the fairy tales she used to read with her Grandma. With catchy songs like “I, like, totally don't even give a care”, “You don't know Jack” and “Waiting”, Fairy Tale Ending will have you in stitches, moved to tears, and humming the tunes as you leave the theatre. Warning: Adults will enjoy!

As You Puppet A Hit!
Remember I told you about the Fringe show, As You Puppet? It's not too late to see it.
It turned out to be a big hit! It was awarded "Best of the Fringe."
Eye Weekly gave it 5/5 stars and NOW made it a Critic's Pick and gave it a rave review: "Shakespeare's As You Like It performed for children by cuddly toy puppets? Sounds like a disaster, but adaptor/performers Jane McClelland and Mike Petersen provide charm and a good sense of text. Even if some kids lose the story, they and their parents will be drawn in by the clever use of teddies, floppy-eared rabbits a goofy wrestling orangutan, and as the villain, a slithery crocodile."
You can still catch it, but just for three performances July 23th to 25th at the Berkeley Street Theatre.

As You Puppet
My friend, Saul, is a film editor. Consequently, as is the case with most Torontonians who work in film and television these days, he relies on more than just editing to make a living.
He has a lot in interests and talents and somehow... well, I'll just quote his email:
"I took to writing orchestral music as a hobby several years ago. The hobby was working itself out and I was a happy clam.
Nevertheless, it comes as a genuine surprise to me that I've just written the score for a Toronto Fringe Festival show. It's called "As You Puppet," and it's aimed at young kids.
The sound is large-scale, melodic and orchestral - not exactly "kid's music" (whatever that is), but rather something for the kid in all of us."
Sounds intriguing to me!
It's being mounted in our area, at the theatre in the Palmerston library, so I thought you and your budding thespians might want to catch it. Here's the scoop:

Meet a giant orangutan, a prissy hippo, a brave teddy, and a comical bunny named Touchstone in Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” for kids!
Director: Ken MacDougall & Tom McHale
Cast: Jane McClelland & Mike Petersen
Audience: Ages 5+
55 min.
