I admit it: I fall down in the legume department; I don't eat enough of them. Beans, peas and the like are under-represented in my diet.
That's a shame because they are so good for you!
In an effort to launch a torrid legume love affair, I made brown beans in the slow cooker from scratch once.
Let's just say the result was less-than-impressive. Okay, they were downright bland.
So, every once in awhile, I try to eat canned brown beans.
I used to detest them, but then my sister shared a recipe with me to spice them up.
Try it -- you'll like it! Of course the best part is sopping up leftover sauce with a piece of bread, a delightfully messy affair.
Tarted-Up Brown Beans
-- a can of your favourite brown beans
-- chopped fresh onion
-- your favourite mustard OR mustard powder
-- worcestershire sauce
Add the last three ingredients to taste. Stir and heat.
Enjoy!
