There is a movement afoot to rename one of the baseball diamonds (#1) at Christie Pits park to Dominico Field.
Here's a brief explanation as to why:
"Jack and Lynne Dominico acquired the Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club in 1969. In the 41 seasons since, the club has won eight championships and 20 pennant titles. Christie Pits has been home to the Toronto Maple Leafs Baseball Club throughout its impressive history.
Mr. Dominico’s beloved wife and partner, Lynne, passed away in November 2008. She was honoured by players in the baseball league throughout the 2009 season, who wore an “LD” patch on their uniforms. Jack and Lynne Dominico are so respected by the other owners, players, and organizers of the Inter-county Baseball League that the league’s playoff trophy was named after them - the Jack and Lynne Dominico Trophy."
I hear tale that some people are opposed to the idea. If you have strong feelings either way, you should let your voice be heard by October 7th -- in other words, tomorrow. The good news is that you can fax or email your comments to Yasmin Carter, Operations Support Officer, Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation.
Cheers,
Vanessa
