"A Tribute to Peter Wintonick: Manufacturing Consent
Canadian filmmaker Peter Wintonick passed away on Monday, November 18, at the age of 60. A pioneering voice and a beloved presence in the documentary film world, Peter contributed to over 100 films and transmedia projects during the span of his 35-year career, and tirelessly mentored countless young filmmakers. Join Hot Docs on January 25, at 1 p.m., as we gather to celebrate our friend Peter with a screening of his 1992 opus Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media. Funny, provocative and surprisingly accessible, Manufacturing Consent explores the political life and ideas of Noam Chomsky, world-renowned linguist, intellectual and political activist. Featuring a dynamic collage of footage, the film highlights Chomsky’s probing analysis of mass media.During his final months, Peter was hard at work on his last film Be Here Now, which will be completed by his colleagues, along with his daughter and collaborator Mira Burt-Wintonick.
Mark Achbar, co-director of Manufacturing Consent will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A, along with other special guests.
Co-presented by the Toronto International Film Festival.
All proceeds from the screening will go toward a fundraiser for Peter Wintonick’s final film Be Here Now."
It sounds as though he was an amazing man. And Manufacturing Consent is an amazing subject matter.
Be there.
