Vintage Toronto: Lakeside Union Station


After watching London on full, glorious display this summer during the Olympics, I often thought,"I wish Toronto was that beautiful."
Well, we had a shot. And blew it.
This, my friends, is Union Station in 1888. (Our city south of Front is, basically, landfill. Front Street used to "front" the lake.)

Think it's just me ranting again? There's even a book about it, Lost Toronto.
Sigh. A sigh for what might have been...

PS It actually looks a wee bit more like Venice, doesn't it, with the boats dotting the foreground?
