When people in power use terms like "legitimate rape" or say it's "virtually impossible to get AIDS through heterosexual sex," it's hard not to bang your head against the wall.
But then Obama weighs in with "Rape is rape" and this happens: a spontaneous memorial to Jack Layton on the one-year anniversary of his death.
Yep -- people showed up and began writing chalk messages again at Toronto City Hall.
Pretty amazing.
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world."
Jack Layton
PS I just read on a Blog that the above quote is a lot like one by Sir Wilfrid Laurier. But Laurier also owes a debt to Goethe... and so it goes. Is there really anything wrong with great people inspiring one another?
