Our neighbours are busy being creative and interesting again. This in from Seaton Village resident Tom Bellman. Tom wrote a lot of the fabulous music for the Palmerston P.S. Shakespeare plays, which instantly will identify him for a lot of you.
(BTW, I made sure to get my tickets before telling you about this. Selfish, I know!)
And a lot of you may know Lis Soderberg, too, who is indeed sublime.
Hope to see you there!
Vanessa
"Dear Friends,
The Sparrow Songs is back for 3 shows (at least...) that I wanted to let you know about.
It's a country music operetta I co-created with Barbara Nichol, that debuted at Summerworks last August in Toronto. If I do say so myself, it's pretty darn good.
This Sunday, April 15th, 8 pm @Musideum, 401 Richmond St. W (at Spadina), Main Floor,
Musideum is an intimate setting where you can really see the performance up close. The band is just piano and guitar. 416-599-7323 or info@musideum.com to book in advance.
Saturday, May 12th, 8:30 pm @The Berkeley St. Upstairs Theatre, 26 Berkeley St.
This is part of CANSTAGE's Festival of Ideas and Creation - call CANSTAGE to reserve. Full band including pedal steel, mandolin, fiddle, bass, piano, guitar, accordion, banjo.
Saturday, May 19th, 8:30 pm @Hugh's Room, 2261 Dundas St. W
We're back at Hugh's Room after our Nov 11 sellout. Call (416) 531-6604 to book.
If you've never seen the show, I hope you can make it out to one of these. If you've seen the show, I hope you'll come back again to hear the sublime Lis Soderberg, now singing the part of Joanie, as well as our other amazing singers (Scarlett Flynn, David Rodenburg and Andy Maize) and fantastic musicians, and of course our incomparable narrator, Barbara Nichol. For the shows at Musideum and CANSTAGE, I will be filling in for Andy Maize in the part of Tin Cup. Andy will be on the road with his band, the SkyDiggers, but back for the show at Hugh's Room. It's exciting to have an opportunity to sing some of these songs I wrote, as well as lead the band.
Please visit our new website www.thesparrowsongs.net where you can also find links to samples of the music. We'd be much obliged if you could like us on Facebook and/or follow us on Twitter--you'll find links to those as well.
Oh, and please pass the word on to everyone you know.
Hope to see you at one of the shows!
Tom"
