This has nothing to do with our area, but the call is going out far and wide for input into developing a Financial Literacy Curriculum in Ontario public schools."The deadline to complete the survey and/or submit your input is June 16.
I think teaching financial literacy to our children is a brilliant idea, so I'm passing along the details below. Did you know that credit card companies hire recruiters to troll for "customers" on college and university campuses?
While we're on the topic, what ever happened to Home Ec? And Shop? Is it really fair to send kids off into the world not knowing how to shop and cook for themselves, or to fix the most basic of things?
Judging by the befuddled masses of university students who pack my local grocery store every September, no, it isn't.
Here are the details about providing input about Financial Literacy:The Working Group on Financial Literacy is pleased to inform you and members of your organization that a survey on financial literacy in now posted on the ministry website: A Dialogue on Financial Literacy.
The Working Group on Financial Literacy welcomes the unique perspectives of students, teachers, educators, parents, Faculties of Education, community members and other groups. To accomplish this, distinct sets of questions have been developed and may be accessed at the survey link below: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/surveyLiteracy.html You can also access the survey on the Ministry splash page at http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/ (under the section: Tell Us What You Think!)
The survey will be available for input until 5:00 pm on June 16th."Cheers,
Vanessa
