Kensington Festival of Lights Lantern Making Workshop Saturday

Long before Christmas was celebrated there were pagan rituals marking the darkest, longest night of the year and the coming brighter days.
Whenever I manage to attend the Kensington Market Festival of Lights I love the feeling of participating in something with roots that deep and ancient, albeit in a thoroughly modern form.
It takes place, as it does every year, on December 21st and begins, fittingly, at 6 pm when darkness falls.
The festival includes a parade that everyone is invited to join, plus a plethora of entertainment.
"Bang a drum or a pot or pan, ring a bell, sing a song, carry a lantern, wear a costume…this is a participatory event!
Come celebrate the return of light at Toronto’s original Lantern procession!"
In anticipation of the event, there is a lantern-making worshop this Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm at Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil St. The cost is a $10 suggested donation.
Cheers,
Vanessa
