Whenever I manage to attend the Kensington Market Festival of Lights I love the feeling of participating in something with roots that deep and ancient, albeit in a thoroughly modern form.
It takes place, as it does every year, on December 21st and begins, fittingly, at 6 pm when darkness falls.
The festival includes a parade that everyone is invited to join, plus a plethora of entertainment.

"Bang a drum or a pot or pan, ring a bell, sing a song, carry a lantern, wear a costume…this is a participatory event!
Come celebrate the return of light at Toronto’s original Lantern procession!"
In anticipation of the event, there is a lantern-making worshop this Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm at Steelworkers Hall, 25 Cecil St. The cost is a $10 suggested donation.
