I think this is a great idea... a cookbook that also helps to revitalize a community, one that is our neighbour to the south. At $5 each, they'd make great gifts for teachers and friends.
Here's the scoop from a City of Toronto news release:
"Local community launches tasty neighbourhood cookbook:
A Pinch of This - Recipes from Alexandra Park
The book... celebrates the culmination of the Alexandra Park - Recipe for Community project, which was established to revitalize the neighbourhood by building a safe and healthy community. The book captures the rich diversity of local residents, their stories and favourite dishes that contribute to Alexandra Park’s vitality, including recipes from Trinidad, Jamaica, China, Italy, the Middle East, Afghanistan, the Philippines and others.
More than a book of recipes, it’s a testament to the vibrancy of the neighbourhood and the strong community values of its residents.
The cookbook launch ends a year that saw residents of all ages plant and harvest a community vegetable garden and install bleachers, public art installations and nearly 300 window boxes.
Money raised from sales of the book will go to the Alexandra Park Green Space Collective to fund a community cooking program and gardens.
The book is available for purchase for $5 by calling 416-678-3439 or e-mailing greenspacecollective@yahoo.ca. Visit for more information."
Cheers,
Vanessa
