Hallowe'en looms this Saturday. Though it's mostly about pumpkins, candy and dressing up these days, its roots derive from saying good bye to summer and festivals of the dead.
It's not hard to see why, given that thankless November is right around the corner and that most crops are gone from now-barren and frosty fields.
In Mexico, they celebrate the Day of the Dead November 1st and this year the Gardiner Museum is joining in with Harvest Of Memories from 1 to 4 pm.
"CELEBRATE the festival of the Day of the Dead with the entire family!
Bring the kids for hands-on fun, musical and dance performances, authentic Mexican treats, and scavenger hunts.
We're also bringing back some of the famous Day of the Dead skeletons from last year's acclaimed special exhibition, HARVEST OF MEMORIES.
Best of all - kids get in for free!
Programming free with admission. Children must come accompanied with adult."
Sounds like a fun family outing to keep the sugar-fueled kids occupied after the festivities of the night prior.
Cheers,
Vanessa
