Story Planet Needs Volunteer Baristas
As a social enterprise, we need to staff the coffee shop with volunteers (we have a paid store manager) and are looking for enthusiastic people who might want to hone their barista skills and come work with us!
Here is the position description:
Title:
ITA Space Cadet
Hours:
10am – 4pm (minimum one shift per week – Monday to Saturday)
Responsibilities:
- Attend
a training session (2 hrs)
- Make
coffee for customers (learn how to use the espresso machine)
- Serve
food to customers (we’re take-out only so this just means putting a muffin
in a bag to go)
- Cash
out customers (we also sell toys and gifts and t-shirts so we’ll teach you
how to use our fancy ipad-based POS)
- General
tidying and cleaning (at the end of your shift you’ll have to clean up a
bit)
- Have
fun and be friendly (we do – and it’s kind of infectious, so this
definitely won’t be a problem!)
- Some
awesome retail/barista skills and experience
- The
possibility of a great reference (just how great is up to you!)
- That
warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you know you are doing something to help
others
- A
fun volunteer experience at one of the coolest places on Earth...
If you, or anyone you know (perhaps an unemployed student in your household?), are interested – give us a call – we would love to hear from you. And, feel free to pass this on, and on, and on...
You can... call us at Story Planet: 416-645-1049
You can also drop by the ITA and talk with Kaleigh, our store manager. We’re on the south side of Bloor, just West of Dufferin (1165 Bloor Street West)
Hope to hear from you,
Kate"

Annex Residents' Association Call For Volunteers
This rolled into my inbox from the ARA. It might interest you if you have a few spare hours during the next few weeks."Call For Volunteers
The Annex is one of the most desirable places to live in Toronto. The trees in the Annex form part of the City's urban forest and undeniably contribute to the charm of the neighbourhood. A recent report by the City of Toronto confirms our belief that trees add significant economic and ecological values to a community. However, it is clear the biodiversity and canopy of trees in the Annex are being depleted over time.
This year, a group called TreesPlease chaired by Michael Low, a member of the ARA has been formed to build and expand on the great pioneering work by Amanda McConnell and the "Grassroots Albany" group in 1994. TreesPlease have started a multi-year review of trees in the whole Annex community with the objective of developing a strategic plan to preserve existing trees and identify potential sites for planting of new trees. The actual identification and documentation of trees is being conducted by knowledgeable students from Urban Forestry, University of Toronto. Many community volunteers are currently helping us on this project; however, we urgently need more volunteers to help us over the last 3 weeks of this project. No experience is necessary; volunteers are trained on the job.
We need volunteers for the following shifts:
Weekdays:
9 am to 12 noon and/or 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm and/or 6:00pm to 8pm
July 12th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 21st, 22nd
Weekends:
9 am to 12 noon and/or 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm
July 16th, 17th, 23rd, 24th
Please let us know if you would be willing to help by sending an email with your contact information to ARATreesPlease@gmail.com . Thank you for your interest."
