Public Meeting Held To Discuss Future of Mirvish Village

There was a meeting Wednesday between area residents and Westbank, the developers of the Honest Ed's site.
According to a Toronto Star article, the meeting was "cordial" (thank God) and the main conclusion was that "redevelopment of Mirvish Village must maintain the artsy, boho-chic vibe of the downtown neighbourhood, ensuring it continues to be a destination point in the city."
Sounds good to me!
I hope that we *all* know by now that maintaining unique character in an area is good for both commercial and residential interests.

Mirvish Village A Heritage Conservation District?

People are working to have for-sale Mirvish Village declared a Heritage Conservation District. In Ontario, areas are declared such "because of their special character as well as for the distinctive architectural quality of individual buildings."
Seems like a good fit with Mirvish Village to me.
There is a change.org petition to sign if you're interested.

Honest Ed's Sale Includes Mirvish Village

So, in follow up to the news that Honest Ed's is for sale, it turns out that all of Mirvish Village is for sale, as well.
I have to agree with David Mirvish on this point:
"This is an opportunity for someone to re-imagine what this corner can mean. You don’t find this much land in the centre of the city, anywhere,” he said.
Truer words...
Let's hope someone with a lot of money, vision and perseverance takes up this challenge.

Tosho Knife Arts Mirvish Village

Although it's just outside the Annex/Seaton Village borders, Mirvish Village is close enough that I consider it part of the neighbourhood.
And what a lovely part of it it is! Great destination for dining -- especially patio dining -- and shopping in eclectic, funky stores.

If you're a fan of "Japanese blades," you'll be thrilled to discover that Tosho Knife Arts has opened on the strip.

Karen Found It In Mirvish Village

I'm not a shopper, but if I HAVE TO shop, I like to go to jumbled-up, funky places loaded with character.

So I think I'm going to have to check out Karen Found It in Mirvish Village. Looks intriguing!
