Harbord Village Trash Flash Event Saturday

What are you doing this Saturday? I ask because of this message from the Annex Residents' Association:

"Support our friends from Harbord Village with the "Trash Flash"

The HVRA Clean-up Committee is pleased to announce the launch of its inaugural Harbord Village “Trash Flash” event on July 27, 2013.
The new “Trash Flash” events will serve as supplements to the HVRA Clean-up Committee’s 2 signature events: the “Litter and Glitter” galas held in April and November every year.
Unlike the “Litter and Glitter” galas, our Trash Flashes will be fast and furious “no-frills” affairs, and will consist of a flash mob gathering at 10 a.m. at the Second Cup at Lippincott and Bloor. The Trash Flash mob will then fan out across the Village and do a quick 30-minute clean-up. For each event, a special area will be chosen which will usually focus on one or more of our sponsors and community partners. On July 27,  special focus will be given to the grounds of Central Tech and the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts and then will proceed across our main street on Harbord and elsewhere in the Village, depending on our numbers.
If you would like to be part of this inaugural event, please join your neighbours at 10 a.m. on July 27 at the Second Cup. The HVRA will provide bags and gloves. The Trash Flash will be over in 30 minutes or less. Volunteers are asked to bring their collected trash back to their homes for placement in their bins for regular curbside pick-up.
The next Trash Flash will be held in late September and the ARA will join forces with our neighbours to the south - date to be announced soon!

Did you grow up  between Bathurst, Spadina, Bloor, and College before 1975 or attend school such as Huron Public School, King Edward, Harbord Collegiate, or Central Tech? Do you have memories of the neighbourhood that you'd like to share?  If so, we need your help!

 The Harbord Village Residents Association is exploring its history, with the help of a grant from the Trillium Foundation. The goal is to collect 100 oral histories – recorded interviews – of our past, from among those who remember life here decades ago.

 We are now at about the half-way mark, with an exhibit planned at the JCC and area schools in the fall. We are also designing a permanent online, indexed archive of these stories, so that our history – which has never been recorded before – is not just collected, but also published.   

 Finding people who grew up in the area but now live elsewhere is not easy for us. If you, or someone you know, might be interested in sharing your stories, please contact Nicole Schulman at n.m.schulman@gmail.com.

Neighbourhood Clean Up Battle November 24th

The year 2012 has been a year of great and noble competitions among the world's finest gladiators!

We have watched Europe battle for the Euro Cup!

We have cheered on our athletes as they rose to the glory at the London Summer Olympics!

And now, to wind up an historical year of global sportsmanship and athletic competition, the great citizens of the Annex have been challenged in an epic battle to determine which of our fine communities will win the inaugural (but still coveted) “Harbord Village Clean-Up Cup” by collecting the most litter and bringing out the most volunteers!

Members of both teams are asked to gather for coffee at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema at 9:45 a.m. on November 24. Clean-up starts at 10 a.m. followed by a complimentary lunch at 12 noon at Hot Docs. Bags and gloves are provided. 

Come out and be eligible for the wonderful prizes listed below to be awarded at 1 p.m.!

Harbord Village Fall Fair Sunday

Well, the kids are back in school, so that means the fall fairs are set to begin. This Sunday from noon to 7 pm enjoy the Harbord Village Residents Association Fall Fair at Margaret Fairley Park.

Upcoming Meeting For Residents' Associations

If you'd like to be involved in your community, a good way to begin is to join your local resident's association.

In this neck of the woods, they are quite active!
The Seaton Village Residents' Association annual general meeting takes place May 10. For those of you who live east of there, in the The Annex, May 13th is the date for the next Annex Residents' Association meeting.

The Harbord Village Residents' Association website is a bit out of date re: upcoming meetings, but it's a good source of other information.
