Just heard that there was a fire in a garage on Yarmouth Road yesterday. I'm hopeful that, because it was a garage, there were no injuries.

PS sorry for not posting yesterday. Rogers Internet service was down in our area.
Musings, Links, Photos and more from a Toronto Annex resident. Posts might be about recipes, local events, current events, or whatever strikes my fancy.

Early Morning Fire on Bathurst Street
Bathurst Street was closed south of Dupont this morning because of a fire in an abandoned building.
When this CP24.com news story was updated at 6:45 am the street was closed, but, of course, it could reopen at any time.
It's reported that no one was hurt, thankfully. However, bus and streetcar services are affected.

UPDATE: This Global News report says that Bathurst Street is now open again.

Fires
DH and I saw some heavy smoke as we drove along Lakeshore Boulevard yesterday and were hoping that no one was hurt in what was obviously a fire.
Turns out that there were two fires in and around our area and, yes, it appears no one was hurt.

FIre on Albany Avenue Update
I mentioned that there was a fire on Albany Avenue; I passed by after it was under control.
Well, there's a lovely end to the story: thanks to the actions of a passerby, a tragedy was averted.
Everyday heroes are my favourite kind.
Cheers,

Fire on Albany Avenue
Just passed by around 8 fire trucks at the south end of Albany Avenue. A fire has been put out and the house is still standing. Also doesn't appear to be any casualties, thank goodness.
But if you heard a lot of sirens, that would explain it.

Fire At Royal St. George's
I hear that there was a fire in the Royal St. George's chapel last night. It's near me, but any sirens were drowned out by the raucous party across the street.
I'm hoping the report that I heard, which is that damage is minimal, is correct.
I can't find anything online about it.

Fire At Honest Ed's
Did you hear sirens last night? I did! Turns out there was a blaze at venerable shopping institution Honest Ed's.
Thankfully, no one was hurt.

PS Here is a more in-depth story about the blaze, including pics. Apparently the store is open for business as usual today.

Woman Died In Children's Storefront Fire
Tragically, a 50-year-old woman died as a result of the fire early Hallowe'en morning at the Children's Storefront on Bathurst Street.
Sad.

Fire on Bathurst Street
Were you woken up early this a.m. by seemingly endless sirens?
This is all I can find about it online:
http://www.toronto.ca/fire/cadinfo/livecad.htm
It was a fire at what is listed as "a high-rise residential building."
I just walked past there and Bathurst Street is closed from Olive/Wells to Dupont.
I hope nobody was hurt... does anyone know anything more?
