Many towns and cities have bylaws that are unknown to their populace. Either the bylaws are irrelevant in a modern world, or they affect so few people that most people are unaware of them.
Like this tidbit: renting out a private parking spot in Toronto is illegal.
Hm. In our tight-for-parking area, I'm sure that people rent out parking spots all the time. In fact, I see notices to that effect posted around the neighbourhood, i.e. parking space wanted, or parking space to rent.
This Toronto Star article outlines the illegality of that, though I doubt that you'd have the riot squad at your door should you be caught breaking this particular bylaw.
Cheers,
Vanessa
