The sights of beautiful pastries housed in spotless glass display cases... the sugary, rich aromas... the crisp, white box tied with string. Altogether now: contented sigh.

There is a void existing between Metro or Loblaw's whipped lard-icing creations and treats like those from Dufflet's, which, while amazing, are quite expensive.
(Even those these treats -- and birthdays -- are occasional, who wants to break the bank?)
If you feel the same way as I do, you'll be thrilled with Sugary Swirls, which has opened on Bathurst, just south of Dupont in the digs formerly occupied by Madeleine's Cherry Pie and Ice Cream.
First, it's great to know that the charming space, complete with exposed brick, wood and a fireplace, is still being used for homey purposes.
Second, Sugary Swirls fills that missing baked-good niche. And how!
Someone brought some Sugary Swirls' neapolitans to a neighbourhood party this week. Ooh la la! (She called it mille feuille; my family calls them custard slices. You'll call them delicious.)
Sugary Swirls also stocks all the items that I listed above, along with cupcakes and lunch foods,
I suggest that you get your buns over there and indulge!
It's local, it's fabulous and it deserves our support.
Cheers,
Vanessa
