Banff Mountain Film Festival and First Annual Book Talk

I'm shocked to discover that I haven't mentioned the upcoming Banff Mountain Film Festival yet! My bad. But tickets are still available... no guaranteeing for how long, though.
The three-day, touring event takes place at the
Bloor Hot Docs Cinema March 21st to 23rd. It's a different line up of films every night, so many people attend all three evenings. The common theme of the movies is mountains... of course; but there's a lot of leeway to that definition. Most of the films are breathtaking and/or educational. I've seen amazing films here that I've seen nowhere else and, generally, the topic and/or the cinematography is stunning.
This year also features the "first annual Banff Mountain Festival Book Talk in Toronto."
On March 22nd from 2 to 4 pm, head to the Victory Cafe on Markham Street for "
an inspiring talk by Allen Smutylo about adventure and travel in the Himalaya. Q&A and book signing will follow.Allen is an Ontario artist and writer who has published critically acclaimed books about his travels. He will be presenting his book "Wild Hearts Wild Places" that won him the 2007 Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival Best Travel Adventure Book Award.
His presentation will highlight his experiences with the nomadic tribes of the Tibetan border. Smutylo is one of very few North Americans to have written and portrayed these elusive and fiercely independent people and his presentation is sure to be informative and inspiring.
His most recent book, "The Memory of Water" was nominated for a Governor General's Literary Award for Best Non-Fiction 2013 and also nominated in this year's Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival for Best Travel Adventure book."
As far as I can tell, there's no admission cost for the book talk.
Cheers,
Vanessa
