Tree Auction

A tree auction? Yes -- you read that correctly! Here's the scoop from the Annex Residents' Association:
"GET YOUR OWN HERITAGE TREE FOR YOUR ANNEX GARDEN
BIDDING DEADLINE EXTENDED TO OCTOBER 22
When The Rt. Hon. Adrienne Clarkson and John Ralston Saul were leaving Rideau Hall in the summer of 2005, they potted up several keys from the Canadian sugar maple in the corner of the garden there. The tradition at Rideau Hall was that the maple trees were always tapped for maple syrup.
Adrienne and John have always wanted the trees to have a sunny spacious home in a Toronto garden, but found that their own garden in Toronto is unable to accommodate them.
They have kindly agreed to allow TreesPlease to auction off these lovely and precious trees to raise funds for our efforts to protect all the trees in the Annex. The Sugar Maples are about two meters tall, and in pots and ready to be delivered.
Bids start at $100 per tree. Email your bids to: aratreesplease@gmail.com and include the bidder’s name, address, phone number and email address.
The deadline has been extended to October 22."
