Concert: Songs And Dances On Ancient Strings

This concert is not taking place in our area, but it has a connection to it. For years local musicians have been writing original music for annual Shakespeare plays at Palmerston public school. Anyone who's been involved with the plays knows how haunting the music is and that the lovely songs echo in your head for a long time after the stage is silent.
Well, some of those songs will be performed during a November 21st concert called Songs & Dances on Ancient Strings, which also will include Renaissance songs and dances.
Featured will be sopranos Gisele Kulak and Tafelmusik's Ariel Harwood-Jones. Playing ancient lute and theorbo will be Benjamin Stein, also of Tafelmusik, and Daniel Rubinoff will play saxophone. Stein and Rubinoff composed some of the songs, along with area resident Tom Bellman.
Things get underway at 7:30 pm at the Donway Covenant United Church, 230 The Donway West, which is near Lawrence Ave. and Don Mills Rd.
Tickets are $20 each, $12 for children 12 and younger and are available through the church office at 416.444.8444, or at the door the night of the concert.
Happy listening!
Vanessa
