Well, this explains why I can't see my fruit bowl some days...
If you have the same problem, I've found that these traps from Lee Valley work well.
However, if you go to the retail store, put on your patience hat first... never experienced a more cumbersome set up.

The vacuum cleaner works very well on them, and you can make a homemade trap by putting a small piece of banana in a tall juice/pop bottle and taping a paper cone placed into the opening. Put the trap into the freezer to kill off the flies, then set back out on the counter. :)
