Some stores you shoot in and out of, grabbing what you need and decamping. Others are made for browsing... browsing, touching, exploring and discovering.
Midoco is like that.
Ostensibly an art and office supply store, it also is one of the few places in the area to buy good childrens' birthday gifts.
I was there recently with the niblets. DD, an artist by nature, picked up some gorgeous different papers (on sale one sheet at a time) that she will turn into something creative and lovely. She also fell so in love with some stunning notebooks that she spent 15 minutes perusing them... dollar store notebooks these are not. Crisp, heavy blank sheets, artistic covers and sheer heft combine to make them little works of art on their own.
DS selected some thin page markers that he declared "useful," his highest adjective of praise, and I picked up some speakers.
I've given up on radio as a source of good music when I'm cooking, cleaning and such and rely solely on my iPod.
With earbuds in, I tend to not hear the phone ringing, or the doorbell. So I picked up a nifty little pair of Woodcock speakers for $10.99. Highly portable, cheap and funky looking, they also hook up to laptops as a good "to go" option, or as a cheap alternative for a kids' computer.
Now, where else in the city could you get all those things in one store? And how many stores in our neighbourhood offer such a feast for the senses when you shop in them?
But, be warned: check out generally is a long, slow, laborious process.
Cheers,
Vanessa
